What it is
The forecast is built by trading interval - all 48 half-hour intervals of the day - split weekday and weekend, for each month of the year ahead. Every interval is expressed as three price bands rather than a single number: an expected case, and a low and high case either side of it. We describe these using the industry convention probability of exceedance (POE) - POE 50% is the expected case, POE 10% is the high case (a price this high is exceeded only 10% of the time), and POE 90% is the low case (a price this low is exceeded 90% of the time). Together the three bands give a working range, not just a guess at the middle.
The whole forecast is refreshed monthly on a rolling 12-month basis, so the view a customer holds is never more than a month old. That comes to a price for every half-hour of the day, both day types, three bands, across twelve months - a complete, structured view of the year ahead, not a single curve.
It is delivered as a standalone product in its own right - not only as an input buried inside PRM (our cost-of-supply model) - though it feeds PRM directly for customers who use both.
